About Dennis Nelson

Hello, my name is Dennis Nelson

At the heart of the counselling process is the relationship between the counsellor and client. Therefore, for you to decide if I might be the person you would like to work with then, I think it is important to tell you a bit about me and my counselling background.

Who am I?

I have continuously worked as a one to one counsellor, psychotherapist and group therapist for the last 23 years. Providing therapy for many people with a wide range of diverse issues. I have worked as a specialist substance misuse practitioner within a residential clinic & day clinic treating clients with addiction to alcohol, cocaine, heroin, cannabis, pain medication and all other mood-altering substances.

I have successfully been a therapist treating people from a wide range of backgrounds and professions from Business Owners, Doctors, Lawyers, Sports Professionals, Musicians, Teachers, Nurses, Builders and people within the Criminal Justice System.

Everyone has to live life and no one gets off the hook. Life happens and at times people need support to understand a way to move forward with their challenging times.

“I personally would like to work with clients who have trust issues and fear talking about their issues. My experience allows me to work with clients who have high anxiety and are fearful that what they disclose may go against them. I can guarantee to keep you safe with the highest of confidentiality. I am an expert in working ways around your issues without having to disclose them, therefore keeping you safe.
It doesn’t matter what your background is or some of the things you have done. As long as you wish to understand yourself and be a better person in life moving forward, then we are on the same page.”

What is my approach?

My approach is gentle but assertive and I can get to the problems/solutions quickly. I know you will understand and learn so much about yourself. I can be direct and challenging but I will always be on your side to help you reach an understanding of yourself and make that shift forward.
I am used to working with sensitive issues, deeply upsetting situations and nothing phases me. I also work with experienced supervisors as a resource for good practice.

I appreciate that I may not be the therapist for everyone. To ensure my clients get the best out of me, I only work with 5 clients a week.

I do this because I am passionate about nurturing people to develop themselves to have a better life.

The importance of picking the correct therapist

Due to my successful outcome with clients, I get a lot of recommendations and am in high demand. Subsequently, my weekly sessions get booked up very quickly. It’s important that you take your time to find the right therapist for you. When you select a therapist that is the right fit for you, you will get so much more than you realise and begin your own personal development journey.
